Use Case
A Large South African Telematics Company observed communication latencies between devices in the field and its backend systems. We were tasked to verify if there were spatial-temporal patterns – like network dead spots – to these latencies and if recent software changes had improved the situation.
Solution
We processed 500 million records from 10 weeks of data, for a portion of the fleet, and performed fine-scale spatial-temporal cluster & aggregation analysis. Latencies were observed nationally along all major routes and provinces prior to device software updates. There were no specific geographic hotspots observable, indicating issues in the devices rather than cellular network blind spots. Post the software changes, the analysis indicated that the device latencies improved nationally.
Client Value
Our analysis allowed the telematics company to conclude that their software update had largely resolved issues with data latency.
