In partnership with MapIT
TomTom Orbis MapsTraditionally, maps have lacked an open standard. Despite the many high-quality maps available, their proprietary structures make them challenging to work with and hamper innovation and integration. It’s difficult as a map customer to adopt these technologies without significant downsides.
TomTom Orbis Maps is changing this with its cutting-edge mapping platform designed to revolutionise organisations, with particular applicability in fleet and logistics operations.
GeoInt and MapIT have partnered with TomTom for over two decades and is proud to introduce the TomTom Orbis Maps Platform to the African market.
A new standard in map interoperability
What makes TomTom Orbis Maps different is that its maps are built on a common mapping standard that has been created with the Overture Maps Foundation, of which TomTom is a founding member alongside Amazon, Meta and Microsoft.
TomTom Orbis Maps combines proprietary data that’s validated, fresh and of the highest quality, as well as data sources from the Overture Maps Foundation™, OpenStreetMap (OSM), partner data, and sensor derived observations (SDOs). In the future, it will allow customers to integrate their own data, creating a rich and flexible mapping ecosystem (BYOD).
This new common mapping standard allows for advanced interoperability of map data and accelerated innovation in the geolocation space.
With its focus on efficiency, safety, and flexibility, TomTom Orbis Maps is revolutionising the fleet and logistics industries by empowering businesses to optimise their operations and maximise performance. Here’s how:
Enhanced Accuracy and Up-to-Date Data
- Enhanced map accuracy and detail: Because TomTom Orbis Maps combine high-quality data from various sources they offer unparallelled accuracy and resolution, particularly in geographies like Africa where map updates typically lag behind industry standards.
- Real-time updates: The maps are continuously updated with the latest changes in road infrastructure, traffic conditions, and points of interest, providing fleet and logistics managers with the most current information.
Improved Efficiency and Productivity:
- Optimised routing: TomTom Orbis Maps’ routing capabilities help companies plan the most efficient routes, reducing fuel consumption, travel time, and operational costs.
- Sensor derived observations integration: SDOs are collected from a variety of sources, including connected cars, smartphones, and IoT devices. Their integration contributes to powerful maps that more accurately depict road and traffic information, and contribute to improved routing algorithms.
- Advanced analytics: The platform offers advanced analytics tools to analyse vehicle performance, driver behaviour, and fuel consumption, enabling businesses to identify areas for improvement and optimise operations.
Enhanced Safety and Security:
- Hazard alerts: TomTom Orbis Maps provide alerts for various hazards, such as road closures, accidents, and construction zones, helping drivers avoid dangerous situations.
Increased Flexibility and Customisation:
- Interoperability: The maps are designed to be interoperable with other systems, allowing for seamless integration into existing fleet management solutions.
- Customisation: The platform can be customised to meet the specific needs of different industries and businesses, providing tailored solutions for various applications.
TomTom Orbis Maps offers a comprehensive and flexible mapping platform that can significantly improve the efficiency, productivity, safety, and security of fleet and logistics operations. By providing accurate, up-to-date data and advanced features, TomTom Orbis Maps is helping businesses to optimise their management practices and achieve better results.
